History on Marana
1890 AD: The name Marana first appears on the map as a railroad station.
1919 AD: The organization that later became the Cortaro Marana Irrigation District is established.
1977 AD: The town of Marana incorporates with a population of 1,500 and ten square miles.
1977 AD: First Founders Day celebration.
1999 AD: The town of Marana purchases the Avra Valley airport and renames it Marana regional airport.
1999 AD: Marana residents elect the first directly elected mayor during town council elections.
2003 AD: The design for the town seal is adopted by the town council.
